CROQUET
jTAUT AU club. ANNUAL MEETING. (From Our Correspondent.) The annual meeting of the Otautau Croquet Club was held in the reading-room of the Otautau Town Hall, when the following were present:—Mesdames Hall (chair), Porteous, Chisholm, Burns, Sinclair, Wesney, Saxelby, Misses Shaw and Gould. ANNUAL REPORT. The following report was submitted:— The opening of the croquet green took place on October 3 in the presence of a large gathering of members and friends. The weather being perfect, a pleasant afternoon was spent, members providing afternoon tea. This year our membership did not reach as high as the previous one. We have also been unfortunate in losing seven members by removal from the district. Finding our green too small we decided to enlarge it to the extent of two full-sized playing greens. This has been done at a cost of £73, but by undertaking the luncheon and afternoon tea on Show day, for which we received £2O from the Wallace A. and P. Association, running the sweets and soft drinks stall also, and a fancy dress ball later, we were able to pay all cost of green alteration, and still have £24 13/3 to carry forward to next season. We are having our pavilion built within the next few weeks, the timber for which is already on the ground. To raise funds for this we are holding a cake and apron fair on October 31, members meeting every Wednesday evening to make things. We have every reason to hope for a successful coming season. The balance-sheet showed that the finance of the Club were in a flourishing condition, receipts amounting to £lO7 13/9, and expenditure to £B3 19/2, leaving a credit of £23 14/7. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. After the report and balance-sheet were adopted, the election of officers was proceeded with, and resulted as follows:—President, Mrs J. Hall (re-elected); Vice-Presi-dents, Mesdames Wesney (re-elected) and Mr Porteous; Secretary, Miss M. K. Gould (re-elected); Treasurer, Miss Shaw; General Committee, Mesdames Hall, Porteous, Chisholm, Burns, Sinclair, Wesney, Saxelby, Lumsden, Misses Shaw and Gould. The subscription was fixed at 10/- for playing members and 2/6 for honorary members, same to be paid by December 1. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded the retiring officers, special reference being made to the excellent manner in which Miss Gould, the secretary, had carried out her duties during the past two years.
