THE BEAM SYSTEM

DEMONSTRATION TO SCIENTISTS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) ADELAIDE, August 28. The first public demonstration of the beam system of wireless communication was given by Mr A. T. Fisk (of Amalgamated Wireless, Ltd.) before the Science Congress. He explained that before the perfection of the new transmitter was occomplished a message sent from England intended for Australia would be received in practically every country of the world. The power required at the transmitting station would be 1,000 kilowatts, but with the beam system the power required was only 25 kilowatts. A message could be intercepted only by a receiving station in the direct line of the beam. The speed of the operation was another important advantage, and the beam also obviated congestion in the air.
