EMPIRE EXHIBITION
PROPOSED OPENING NEXT YEAR,
(By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.)
LONDON, August 27. The Daily Mail states that the Exhibition authorities have learnt that the Governments of Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa, who do not desire to participate in the continuation of the Exhibition in 1925, have been asked to reconsider the matter. Negotiations are proceeding. FINANCIAL FAILURE FEARED. NOT MUCH PROSPECT OF RE-OPENING LONDON, August 27. (Received August 28, 11 p.m.) The Dail Express says that the prospects of continuing the Empire Exhibition in 1925 are negligible. The sub-committee of the Cabinet unanimously decided that the Exhibition’s undoubted propoganda value would not offset the renewal of the Exchequer’s heavy financal liabilities. Pressure from the Overseas Dominions and British industrial trade organisations is equally opposed to continuation. The weather has seriously affected the financial results.
Some 18,000,000 visitors will be required to September 31 to make the concern pay. It is estimated that the guarantors will be called on to pay 10/- in the £l.
