LATE MR B. M OFFICER

FUNERAL SERVICES YESTERDAY. The high esteem in which the late Mr “Bert” Officer was held by his many friends and business associates was demonstrated yesterday afternoon by the very large gathering of people both from town and country that attended his funeral. After a service at his late residence in Teviot street, conducted by Father Martin, the funeral left for the Eastern Cemetery, followed by a long line of cars that stretched from the Town Hall far beyond the town boundary. The service at the graveside was also conducted by Father Martin. Messrs D. Teviotdale, J. Deegan, J. Horner, J. McNeil, G. Meek, R. Russell and J. B. Reid represented the Southland Farmers’ Co-operative Association, where the late Mr Officer was employed, and representatives of all commercial and business houses were present. Many farmers from all parts of Southland, with whom Mr Officer had been acquainted, also attended the services.

Hinton, Mr and Mrs Tully, Mr J. B. Reid, Mr and Mrs McLauchlan, Mr and Mrs McGrath.
