MOTORIST FINED

MAGISTRATE’S WARNING. (Per United Press Association.) DUNEDIN, August 25. Clarence Joseph Bernard Ward was admitted to probation for three years on a charge of being drunk while in charge of a motor car and knocking a man down. He had been previously convicted on a similar charge, and prohibited from driving. Medical evidence proved that injuries received in the war were responsible for a little drink making him drunk.

The Magistrate (Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) said that he would have sent him to gaol as a warning to the public and motorists that it was a serious offence, but the medical evidence would be taken into consideration.
