SOLDIER SETTLERS
WORK OF REVALUATION. (Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 9. A statement on the work of the Dominion Revaluation Board dealing with soldiers’ settlements was issued by the Minister for Lands (Hon. A. D. McLeod) today. “The determinations of the Dominion Revaluation Board have been issued to the soldier settlers on the various groups and settlements (Oronga, Waitakarwru, Horahia, Torehope and Patetonga) on the Hauraki Plains,” said the Minister. “Each case was considered individually on its merits, and the average reduction in capital values is very generous. Concessions in the way of remission and postponements have also been granted to the settlers on these blocks, entirely on well-considered merits of each case.” Dealing with matters generally, the determinations are issued direct to the settler concerned immediately the decision is given, a copy of same being also sent to the Commissioner of Crown Lands in the district concerned. No information is published as to individual cases. The Board to date has issued determinations of 2337 cases, and all applications are being dealt with as expeditiously as possible, the Board sitting every day except Sunday. “It is probable,” added the Minister, “that an analysis of determinations for the Dominion will be issued when the Board’s work is complete, but no information as to individual cases will be given, although there is no objection to soldiers divulging the nature of the concessions made, or the details, if they so desire.”
