THE ALL BLACKS
OTAGO UNION DIVIDED. (Special to the Times.) DUNEDIN, July At the meeting of the Committee of the Otago Rugby Union held to-night, th* chairman (Mr H. H. 8. White) said thal before they commenced the business of th« meeting, he would like to move that I letter of congratulation be sent to Mr 3. F Wilson, President of the Canterbury Rugbj Union, on his appointment as the delegate from New Zealand to the Imperial Rugny Conference. It was only natural that they would have liked to have seen the Otago Union’s nominee appointed. He was sure he would have done credit to the position, and moreover, he had given long and valuable service in the interests of the game in New Zealand. They all felt very much disappointed. He was sure that Mr HarrisMr G. Nelson: Are we congratulating Mr Wilson or giving a sympathy vote to our own delegate? The chairman: Well, I would move that a letter of congratulation be sent to Mr Wilson. Mr Harris seconded the motion. Mr J. Woo ton said he did not think they should pass the motion. He did not think they should pat the N.Z.R.U. on the back for the way they had come at the appointment. He did not desire to deprive Mr Wilson of his honour—he had the delegateahip—but by passing the motion, they were backing up the N.Z.R.U. He did not think from the way they had had it put across them that they should have anything to do with such a motion, and he thought that had they known how the appointment was to be made, they could have scouted round and got what he might call proxies for their nominee. Hie N.Z.R. U. had put it all over them. The chairman: AU those in favour of the motion say “Aye.” There was a chorus of “Aye,” and a more emphaticaUy expressed chorus of “Noes,” but the number voting “No” were in the minority. The chairman: The motion is carried.
