MOROCCAN OCCUPATION
SPAIN MUCH AGITATED. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, June 25. The Barcelona correspondent of the Daily Express says: “Public opinion is highly ex cited over the Moroccan trouble. “The position of the dictator (General Rivera) is shaken, and there are rumours of General Weyler becoming Prime Minister. A section of the army is protesting strongly against the decision to evacuate the advanced posts in Morocco, and Colonel Frianco, commanding the Foreign Legion, refuses to leave his positions, and threatens to march on Melilla with his troops. When General Sanjuju was ordered to arrest Colonel Frianco nothing was done. Meanwhile General Berrenguer is being tried for his responsibility for the defeats of the Spanish troops in Morocco in 1922. Charges against General Navarro were withdrawn. “The public is convinced that if the Moroccan operations continue the Spanish Treasury will be exhausted.”
