NOT A SUCCESS
POSTAL OFFICIAL’S MONEY-MAKING SCHEME. (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, June 25. Percy Reginald Sutherland, aged 26, was committed for sentence for forging a Post and Telegraph voucher for £2O 19/4. It was stated that accused had a record for work above the average employee, but of late had given way to gambling and dissipation. He made out a voucher for freight alleged to come overseas, and forwarded it to Wairoa and it was taken to the room of the stores manager. Accused waited while the storeman signed it. Apparently the voucher was nob checked, for the voucher was taken to the accountant’s branch and he arranged for authority for a payment stamp to be attached. He presented it for payment at the Money-Order Office, where the voucher was cashed.
Accused said he had no accomplices, and worked out the scheme himself.
