EMPLOYERS ASSOCIATION

RE-ORGANISATION SCHEME. A large number of employers attended a special meeting held in the Southland League Rooms yesterday afternoon to consider a proposal to re-organise the Southland Employers’ Association. Mr T. J. Boyce, Vice-President of the Association, presided and stated that at one time the Association had been a strongly organised body, but recently it had become more or less inactive. That had probably been due to the fact that there had been practically no industrial strife in Southland. The object of the Association was to look after the interests of both employers and employees, and to see that no legislation, which was detrimental to either, should be placed on the Statute Books. The Employers’ Federation had done a lot of valuable work in this connection, and it was therefore necessary that employers in all parts of the Dominion should support it. In the past the local Association had been successful in getting the sittings of the Arbitration Court held in Invercargill, thus saving a great deal of time and expense. Mr Camp, representing the Employers’ Federation, also urged upon those present the necessity for re-organising the Association. As an Association it was very necessary that it should be either in or out of the boat. Unfortunately during the last two years it had been very much out of the boat, and employers in other parts of the Dominion had not received the support, financially or otherwise, which they should have been able to expect when taking into account the benefit the Association had received. ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The election of officers resulted as follow: —President, A. le H. Hoyles; Vice-Pre-sident, J. McCrostie; Executive Committee, W. Thomson, J. Johnstone, T. J. Boyce, E. E. Broad, J. Gilkison, N. M. Hyndman, A. Dennison OTHER BUSINESS. The Executive was instructed to prepare rules and regulations to be presented at next general meeting. It was decided to hold monthly meetings of the Executive and that a general meeting should be called at least once in every three months.
