The British film industry, long neglected, is beginning to show umuistakeablc signs of vigorous life. For some time past British kinema productions have become increasingly ambitious under the spur of cempetition from the United States, where the business of film-making ranks as the country’s fifth greatest industry. Now a company has just been formed in London, with a capital of £1,000,000, which will concern themeelves exclusively with the production of British films. They are going to establish a kinema city at Harrow Weald Park, with the largest studio in the world, a hostel to accommodate their own actors and actresses, and the capacity to produce no fewer than 60 pictures in a year. Not the least interesting feature of the project is the fact that some of England’s most eminent dramatists, including Sir Arthur Pinero, Mr !>.. C. Carton, and Mr Edward Knoblock, have consented to act ns members of a consultative literary committee. More and more, too, the best-known actors and actresses are turning their talents to the films, from which for a long time they exhibited a tendency to hold aloof.
