SALE OF WORK
SOUTHLAND GIRLS’ HIGH SCHOOL.
Yesterday afternoon and evening the teachers and pupils of the Southland Girls’ High School held a sale of work in aid of the little orphan whom the pupils have been supporting for the last three years. The child is an inmate of a London hospital and is the orphan of a sailor killed in the North Sea battle. The object for which the sale was held was in itself sufficent to ensure success and the takings were very satisfactory. The various stalls were in the charge of the school pupils, who were kept very busy attending to the wants of the many people anxious to assist the school in its efforts. In the evening a very enjoyable programme was provided, the items consisting of calisthenics by pupils of Mr Page, part-singing under Mr C. Gray, and solo dancing by Miss Vyner and pupils. As the result of the sale it was hoped that sufficient funds would be obtained to support the orphan for the next year, and anything over the amount required is to be devoted to the Cameron Home.
