In the Assembly Mr Gardiner gave notice of motion for the abolition of the office of State Governor. CIVIL SERVANTS’ SALARIES. SYDNEY, August 20. Received August 20, 10.5 p.m. A deputation of civil servants presented to the Attorney-General a resolution urging the Government to increase salaries by £SO per annum, and also to grant a cash bonus to meet the higher cost of living. WAR SOCIETY DISBANDED. SYDNEY, August 20. Received August 20, 7.40 p.m. The society for entertaining New Zealand soldiers passing through Sydney has been disbanded. During its existence it entertained or otherwise assisted thousands. WHEAT CROPS DAMAGED. MELBOURNE, August 20. Received August 20, 7.40 p.m. The manager of the Wheat Commission reports that owing to drought and frosts the Riverina wheat areas are in a bad condition and almost beyond recovery. The northern districts are also much retarded.
