THE IRISH PROBLEM
FIGHT FOR MILITARY STORES. TROOPS USB MACHINE GUNS. (By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright.) (Australian and , N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, August 17. A mysterious night attack was made on the island near Queenstown on which a small force is guarding military stores. Men hiding on the peninsula commanding the island opened rifle fire and the 'garrison replied with machine guns. It is not known what the casualties are. The authorities maintained secrecy. Farm labourers, who were striking, removed a rail from the track near Cavan, derailing thirty waggons intended for the removal of stock from a farm. THE LONDONDERRY DISORDERS. LONDON, August 17. A force of troops at Londonderry kept the Orangemen and Sinn-Feinera apart on Friday night. There was much shouting and singing of party songs and some revolver shots and stoning. the troops cleared' the streets, the Sinn-Feiners fleeing before them. They smashed windows and looted many shops.
