CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR SOLDIERS

The matter of providing suitable Christmas presents for the Southland soldiers at the front and in hospital is at present under the consideration of the Southland War Punds Association. Jn order to provide adequate information to secure co-ordination and to prevent overlapping, the X.Z. Advisory Hoard has asked for a report indicating what is being done In Southland in respect to this matter and the whole question is to lie reviewed at the meeting of the Board in Wellington on Jlfli inst. In (tie meantime the .Minister of Defence has received the following cable from the X.Z. High Commissioner in London: “People already discussing question of Christmas presents for the X.Z. troops in England and on Continent. Should lie glad to know Xew Zealand's intetions on the matter so that co-ordination may lie secured and overlapping prevented as far as possible. lam advised that if it is decided to make purchases here orders should be given early owing to enormous supplies required for British Army at Christmas.” It is probable that the Advisory Board will draw up particulars of a suggested dominion scheme.
