GERMAN SPIES. SENTENCE OF DEATH, (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright) LONDON, September 21. Received September 22, 7.45 p.m. The Press Bureau reports that a man and woman of German origin were convicted of attempting to send abroad naval information useful to the enemy. The man was sentenced to death and the woman to ten years' imprisonment. THE WIRELESS CASE FINKS IMPOSED. MITIGATING CIRCUMSTANCES. By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, Sept. 22. Received Sept. 22, 10 p.m. In the ease in which the Amalgamated Wireless Co,, of Australasia, Limited (E. Fisk, C. P. Bartholomew', and H. R. Dennison) was charged under the Enemy Trading Act with having on or about December 8, by executing an indenture of license with the Telefunken Company and thereby traded with the enemy the Magistrate fined Fisk, Bartholomew and Dennison each £lO and the Company a similar amount. He said that the defendants had traded with the enemy within the meaning of the Statute, but it was not a case calling for drastic punishment, there being mitigating circumstances, namely, that after the war began tlie defendants offered the Commonwealth Government the services of their wireless staffs and this assistance was availed of; they also acted on legal advice. Six oilier cases listed were withdrawn.
