Mrs Burrldge has received a cable from Captain-Chaplain Burrldge that he had arrived safely in Cairo with the 6th Reinforcements. It is probable that the Rev. Goldtfaorpe (at present located at Pembroke) will be appointed vicar of the WyndhamFortrose Anglican parish. He will assume duties about the end of November. Mr Bert Mathias, formerly on the staff of the National Bank in Invercargill, also connected with the Riverton branch for'a time, is now a member of a London military corps, called the Honourable Artillery Company, and according to a card received from him by an Invercargill acquaintance, he is doing duty, in the Tower of London. He expresses the hope that he will soon be sent to Flanders. Our Christchurch correspondent wires: —Mr G. W. C. Moon, tourist agent in Christchurch, is under instructions to take charge of the Dunedin office of the Tourist Department. Mr S. J. Collett, tourist agent in Dunedin, is to take Charge of the Christchurch office, At the close of the evening service on Sunday, the Rev. •R. M. Rybum, on behalf of the Deacons' Court and the First Church choir, presented Mr John MacGibbon with a handsome suit case as a small memento on the eve of his departure for Christchurch. Mr Mac Gibbon was an active member of both bodies, and Mr W. Quinn took the opportunity of specially acknowledging the invaluable services rendered by Mr MacGibbon for a number of years to the choir.

Mr .T. B. McKinney, who is resigning the position of general secretary of the Auckland Young Men’s Christian Association at the end of the present year, in order to seek a change of climate, has accepted a unanimous invitation from the Invercargill Association lo take charge of next year's work in that centre. Prior to making an extended tour abroad in 1913, Mr McKinney was general secretary at Invercargill for over six years. Mr .lames Matter, of the head office staff of the Bank of New Zealand (the Dominion states >, lias received the appointment of manager of the South Dunedin branch of the bank, and, with his family, leaves Wellington to take up his new duties at once Mr Matier was for a number of years manager for the hank at Levin, also in Hawke’s Bay. The manager of the South Dunedin branch, Mr Tomlinson, comes to Invercargill, as accountant. The Record reports the death of Mr David Anderson, of Dipton. Deceased gentleman had been in indifferent health for some time He belonged to the sturdy band of men, who helped very materially in making Southland the prosperous province it is to-day. As a young man he worked as a shepherd in the Arrow and Queenstown districts, and later took up land}-in Southland, where he became a successful and prosperous farmer. He was generous to a fault, a good sport, and a thoroughly honourable and straight-forward man. After a long and successful record as a teacher in the Middle School, Miss Annie Thomson has retired from the service of th e Education Board with the object of taking a well-earned rest. The pnpils, ex-pupils, parents, committee, and staff, as befitted the occasion, met at the school on Friday afternoon to give tangible expression to the high regard entertained for one who had done excellent work in training the young. On behalf of the committee and pupils Master Leo Howells presented to Miss Thomson a handsome gold wristlet watch, referring in highly complimentary terms to the recipient’s interest in their progress. Mr H. J. Jefcoate, on behalf of the committee, also expressed their warm appreciation. A handsome gold bracelet, the gift of the staff, was presented by Miss Helen Birss, who specially referred to the splendid moral influence exercised by Miss Thomson, and to the fact that it was in her class-room the teachers always liked to meet. Dr Hendry, Mr A. E. Featherstono (headmaster) and other members of the staff added warm tributes and all joined in wishing Miss Thomson long and happy life in the retirement which she had so worthily earned. Several other presentations were made by ex-pupils. Mr A. Greig (first assistant) appropriately responded on behalf of Miss Thomson, who intends to leave shortly on a holiday trip In the north.

At the conclusion of the service at the Wyndham Anglican Church on Sundayevening the vicar's church warden (Mr E. C. W. Porter) read an address of appreciation by the parishioners of Rev Herbert and Mrs Blathwayt during their four years’ residence at Wyndham. The address expressed appreciation of the work done and the progress made in material as well as spiritual matters connected., with the parish. A vicarage at Wyndham, a church cottage at Fortrose, and a new church at Edendale had all been built during Mr Blathwayt’s ministry. Mr Porter asked Mr Blthwayfs acceptance of a purse of sovereigns as a token -of the esteem In which he and Mrs Blathwayt are held. Mr H. B. Niven, on behalf of the Edendale portion of the parish, also expressed keen regret at the departure of Mr and Mrs Blathwayt and wished them a pleasant sojourn at Hastings. Rev. Hubert Blathwayt made a suitable response, thanking all for the kindness shown to Mrs Blathwayt and himself during their residence at Wyndfr.w. far their- aaluable gtEL ...
