TRAVELLERS' ASSOCIATION
PRESENTATIONS MADE. A largely attended meeting of commercial travellers representing Southland and Otago houses was held in the spacious smoking room at tho Club Hotel on Saturday night, the purpose of the gathering being to make two presentations and discuss a project ot forming a Commercial Travellers’ Association. The chair was occupied hy Mr Loudon, and there were about thirty travellers in attendance. On behalf of tlie Southland travellers Mr S. Patton presented a case of four Loewe pipes and a pair of military hair brushes to Mr Andrew Aiurray, who lias severed his connection with the linn of Messrs McKerras and Hazlott to take up a position with Messrs Hatriek and Co. at New Plymouth. in making the presentation Mr Patton referred to the wide popularity gained by the recipient during his sixteen years’ of service with the firm of McKerras and Hazlctt, and wished him every success in the new sphere of action upon which he was entering. Mr Patton’s remarks were enthusiastically supplemented by Messrs Loudon, Martin. Stevens, Sherriffs. .1 lowie, .lohnston, Boyce, Miller, Macanloy, Wilkes, Lumsdcn. and Elder. Eater in the evening Mr .1. R. Martin presented to Lieut. Wilkes an enlarged photograph of the Southland Commercial Travellers football leant, which won tho banner under his coaching last year. Mr Martin remarked upon tho efficiency and thoroughness of the coach and the great, credit due to him for the pains lie had taken to prepare the team for the match. Songs and recitations wore rendered by Messrs Loudon, Stevens, Elder. Lumsden and Howie, and a number of formal toasts were honoured. The proposal to form a Southland Commercial Travellers’ Association was discussed, and as a result of the discussion the meeting decided to affirm tho proposal, and fixed the annual subscriptions at 10s tid. The speakers were unanimous in the expression of the opinion that it would be impossible lo go into tlie matter very elaborately at the moment, but they also expressed their conviction that i-hc institution was desirable. Tlie chairman said that lie hoped that tlie association would have tlie support of every traveller. They should consider it their duty to support the organisation and at least give their membership.
