Received March 24. 8.25 p.m. A correspondent proceeding from Lemberg towards Przemysl saw the fortresses round tho town burning like a circle of volcanoes. From tlie southern and western sectors came a succession of violent explosion, with dense smoke, os the Austrians blew up tlie ammunition stores. When the Russians heard the explosion they rushed past the forts and occupied the Inner sectors. The Austrians meanwhile shot their horses to prevent them falling in to tiie Russians' hands. Then the members of Parliament announced the surrender of the town. Many of the garrison dropped from exhaustion and some had not enougii strength to leave the trenches.

Most of them had gnawed straps to keep themselves alive. Twenty thousand wounded were among the prisoners. The town is intact, the outskirts alone having suffered.
