COMM PITEE REPOIITS. The following committee reports will he considered by tlic Town Council this evening;— PUBLIC WORKS. The committee recommends: That Inspector Itennie lie instructed to attend to the regulating ot street traffic with respect to seeing that the rule of the road is strictly observed. (2) That the request of the 11. and A. Board to bo relieved of the annual charge of t.2.1 for the removal of refuse from the .Southland Hospital be agreed to, the hospital authorities having erected a destructor to deal with the whole of the rubbish from the hospital and nurses’ home. Cl) That the purchase of a new mowing machine for the reserves be left in the hands of the gardener, engineer and chairman to deal with. The estimated cost is £l.l. (1) That the sewerage pumping station be formally opened by the Mayor on Friday, at 11..10 P.m. The committee reports: — (.1) Haring granted the railway department permission to enter upon the footpath in Lcven street near Spey street to enable a retaining wall to he erected on die land which has been excavated to the | railway formation level. tfi) Having attended to the elearing of the drains in Conyers street as requested by Mr t Warhurton. (7) Having considered the petit ion from property holders residing within the district hounded by Gala, boon, Xcss, Tyne and hcveron street, requesting that the sewerage system be extended to that area. Recommends — That the necessary steps to take a poll of ratepayers on the question extending the system to include Hint part of tlic town comprising the main aorough and Northend. This includes the area mentioned in the petition. (3) That the Invercargill Bowing Club be notified that unless their boats lied is removed i.o another site before tii* l end of August, the Council will proceed to carry out (he work at the expense of the club. (4) That the following requisition for material required In constructing the concrete fiood channel at the roc amation works be granted: 90 yards gravel, metal for reinforcing. 270 bags cement, 2000 fret timber at the estimated cost of £l9O. The committee reports—(s) Having considered the application from the Southland Rugby Footbal Union for a rebate r;f ono-tbird of the rent charged for the theatre during the carnival, and have no recommendation to make. (('.l Having instructed the theatre caretaker to f.ee that the heaters are in operation in ample time before any performance is to be held, and that the entrances on the sheltered side of the building, according to the weather conditions from time to time pre lading, are used. (7) Having informed the Under - Secretary for Internal Affairs that August 1 would be a suitable date to include the A, and P. grounds in the borough. (S) Have no recommendation to make with respect to the remits from the Wa-iporl Borough Council to the Municipal Conference. The committee reports;—(l) Having considered the petition from Maitland street residents re erection of a gas street lamp, and report having no recommendation to make. (2) With reference to an application for a street lamp from itsidonts In Chelmsford street the committee cannot recommend erection in the meantime, owing to the capital cost of the extensions of the mains necessary. (3) No recommendation to make with respect of an application by Mr L. Cheyne for the erection of a street lamp in Crinan street. (4) That a street lamp be erected at the corner of Gordon and Princes streets, as requested by Mr W. H. Nelson. (5) That extension of eight chains Sin. gas main he made in King street. North Invercargill (estimated to cost £4O), to supply two consumers. and also a street lamp to bo erected in that street. (G) That the i.f.'or of Councillor Dunlop to transfer the option of purchase of land at the corner of Mary and St. Andrew streets, he accepted with thanks, and that the throe sections be acquired, in terms of the option at a cost of £2 90 for the purpose of straightening the tramway track curve. (7) As an experiment that for a period of six months on all cars leaving the respective termini at or before 7.22 a.m. (present timetable) the fare to the Post Office he one penny (S) Having reconsidered the question of making George, street a tramway stopping place and have no recommendation to make.
