A MERE WASTE OF TIMEX PROPORTION At. RIGPKIOSUNTATIONAPVOrATEP. (Special to the Times.) WFJJJ.NTiTON. July SA vigorous protest against the party system of Government was entered by Mr G. .1. Anderson, member for Maliuira, in the last speech on the no-confidence I motion last night. Ho described it as "our silly party system of Government. He said: "Wc have been hen* two weeks talking, and what have we done? We have not even cleared the, air. Surely there are brains in this House to devise a means by \vh ich we could do away with this waste of time. I>ct us be business men in the management, of onr affairs. An Opposition Member; What do you suggest? Mr Anderson: I would suggest the election of this House on the proportion representat ion system. After that, we should elect a Cabinet from the whole House also on the proportional representation system. A Member; Would you vote for it.? Mr Anderson; I would vote for it, certainly. I would in any system for doing away with the waste of time that goes on here. Charges are hurled from cne side to the other. Any man who looks at it from the commonsense point of view must admit this. I don’t suppose it will come about by my speaking of it here, hut if anyone brings forward a scheme that will do what 1 propose I will support it. Until we have proportional representation we cannot hope to •*et an elective executive. —Applause.
