SOUTHLAND HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting oi' tlie Southland Horticultural Society was held in Allen’s Hall last evening, when there were present—the President, Air O. S. Longuet (chair), and Messi's L. Lennie, W. N. Stirling. Sproull. Geo. Main.. Hoyles. 11. Cooper, e7 P. Howard, It. T?. Power and Alrs Howard. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the chairman expressed regret that the Society had found it necessary to have cut out the daffodil and chrysanthemum shows, and it was satisfactory to know that they would re revived this season. The result of tlie rose show was pleasing, both from a (inaaicial point of view and as a show i'self. He emphasised the importance of lectures and said that in the coming year they would do well to make them a feature of (heir work. The Society was unfortunate in losing the services of several valuable members. The report together with tlie balance sheet, the latter showing a profit of £.l Is , : iJ on the year’s working, was adopted. Scandrett and Bennie and Airs Longuet. The president. Air Geo. Peatherstone. and the secretary were appointed a syllabus committee. Votes of thanks were passed to the retiring president, l.i Mr and Airs Howard. to the ladies who had assisted the Society, to Air 11. B. Bowers, who has been transferred to Christchurch, and to the press.
