WALK'S T\TO TROUBLE. THREE MONTHS’ HARD. (Per United Press Association). DUNEDIN, April 1 6. An uncommon story was told in the Police Court this morning' by Chief Detective Herbert in the case in which Bryant diaries Donnelly was charged with obtaining 12 by false pretences. The following aliases were credited to him The Jlon. Rupert Preston, Hon. Klunaird, Doctor Donnelly, Lieutenant Donnelly, and otlrcrs of less distinction. In the present ease accused went to the Otago Irinance Co. and represented that ho had an interest In a certain estate, and thus obtained money. It was stated that he had been before the court in different parts of New Zealand nine times since 1902, chiefly on charges of false pretences. Two years ago he had been fined for falsely representing himself as a medical practitioner. Previously in Dunedin ho had represented himself as a doctor and was conducted, partly through St. Helen’s Hospital. Detective Herbert was inclined to think that the man was not right in his head, but accused said that he had all his mental faculties. He had been trying to go straight for some time and was willing to pay expenses. A sentence of three months’ imprisonment was imposed.
