THE HOKITIKA CASE. PUBBIC WORKS DEPARTMENT ACTIVE. (Per United Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 13. The Hon.. W. Fraser states that the Public Works Department is taking an active part in the efforts being made to arrest the Inroads' of the sea at Hokitika. The district engineer hh-s been authorised to defray half cost of work being done to protect the town. Plans for extensive foreshore protective works have been prepared, and the intention i.s to erect groins at right angles to the beach, similar to those erected forty years ago. The cost will be about £IOOO.
