The death lias occurred of Mr John R. Monson, of Port Chalmers, an ex-Cus-totns officer, aged 85 years. He arrived in New Zealand by the John Wickllffe in IS4S. Mr W. H. Price, local manager of the U.S.S. Co., will leave for Wellington in a.fortnight to take charge of that branch during the absence of Mr W. A. Kennedy, the Wellington manager. Air Price will be absent for six weeks, and the temporary vacancy hero' will be lilled by Air O. F. Wilson. Bluff. Last evening at Christchurch by command of His Majesty the King, His Excellency the Governor invested the Hon. Charles Christopher .Bowen Knight, with the insigma of a Knight Commander of the Alost Distinguished Order of St.i •Michael and li?t. George and Professor John yiiand, Ai.A.. LL.D., with the insignia of a Companion of the same order. Air H. Barr, accountant. Tourist Office. Wellington, who during the past few o-iys has been on an official visit to Invercargill inspecting the local branch of tin Department, left by this morning’s express cn route for Wellington. Fisher, late secretary of the firm, has beeen elected* in .his stead. Air H. K. Davison has been appointed secretary to the company.
