A DEFAULTING CASHIER
(Per Uniter! Press Association!. AUCKLAND. August 10. A charge against a clerk an! cashier in the employ of the Auckland City Council. Harold Clarence Robinson, of having failed to account for money received by him on behalf of the Council, was heard at the Police Court before F. V. Frazer. S.M. Chief Detective McMahon withdrew the original elm rare of failing to account for £lO and substituted a charge of accused bavins received £338 on behalf of the City Council, and with bavins failed to account for it. Maurice M. Louisson, manager for Uairhnirn, Wright and Co., stated that on .January IS he had drawn a cheque for £l3 10s for payment to the Auckland City Council. Hush Wylie. Government Auditor Inspector, produced the counter foil of a receipt, showing that. Messrs Fairhnlrn, Wright and Co. had been credited with only £3 10s instead of £l3 10s. The handwriting was that of accused. Further investigations, he said, bad shown that there were other rather extensive defalcations due to accused's operations. the defalcations amounting to £328 in the past year. John S. Brigham, treasurer for the City Council, said that Robinson had been appointed clerk and cashier, and at the time of arrest was receiving £2OO a year. Cross-examined witness said that up to July 26th. 1013, accused was receiving £IBO. He knew Robinson was a married man with one child. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. He was allowed hail in his own security of £250 and two securities of £125 each.
