BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY
THE PROPOSED CARNIVAL. The Carnival Committee of the Invercargill Beautifying Society met in Allen s Hall last evening, Mr .1. OrosbySmith occupying the chair. The Chairman reported that the Designs Committee had, since last meeting, paid a visit to tite King’s Hall, and had instructed Mr E. R. Wilson to lay out a plan of the proposed scheme of operations for the forthcoming carnival in October next. >lr Wilson, who placed his plan before the meeting, explained in detail what was intended to form the major plan of operations. A prominent feature of th'e rddn was Hie laying out in the hall of a model "Queen's Park." **u the lines of the' work that is now br ing undertaken in the vicinity of the Park School. The general plan was adopted, but the Committee will later on consider what will he preferable to include before any definite line of action is followed. It was decided lo run an art union in connection with (he Carnival, the Finance Committee to arrange the value of prizes. Tile Committee resolved to ask his Excellency tite Governor to accept the position of patron of the Carnival. The various committees will deal witli the special work of tlieir departments, and report to a general meeting to be held later.
