MATAURA TENNIS CARNIVAL

The committee of the Matanra Tennis Club had been for some time making preparation for a bazaar and carnival, ■which opened on Thursday night, ami though the weather was anything hut propitious, the carnival opened with much heartiness. The horticultural hall, which was tastefully decorated, presented. a most striking effect, with stalls of fine art and fancy exhibits, and Mdc shows of every rk’scrir»tion, inci ud; na tug-of-war platform the full length of the hall. The Mayor (Mr John Lowdeni. In opening the carnival, said that if there were one thing that Mat aura. excelled In more than another, it wrm their liberal patronage of all kinds of healthy, manly, and womanly snort, and this indicated a. healtht’ state of puhil'’ iceling.
