SCHOOL COMMITTEE'S WORK.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —In reading your Lochiel correspondent’s notes, I notlc® he takes the late school committee to task for neglecting to keep fences In repair. Has your correspondent forgotten that some of his relatives acted as chairmen of Elderslie School Committee for a number of years (about 13 years), and when one of them finished his stewardship it cost the Education Board £l2 to grub gorse and trim hedges through the committee’s neglect. After that a new committee took charge for a time and cleaned the grounds, had gate posts put in. and gates hung. But the chairman left the district and another of your Lochiel correspondent’s relatives was appointed chairman, and when he tvent out of office it cost # the late committee £7 10s of their own money, with a like amount from the Education Board, to repair fences and put gravel down. When the late committee took charge they found the treasury empty, and they finished up with firing laid in for this winter and £9 T2s in hand. I am rather surprised that your correspondent’s view did not extend beyond the school grounds with regard to neglect of keeping grounds in order. Now, sir, your correspondent must have been hard pressed for something to write about when h© referred to the late committee. —I am, etc., ONE or-' LATE COMMITTEE. Lochiel, 16th May. f
