WILLIAM HENBY ADAMS, Universal regret will follow the an» nouncement of "the death of Mr William Henry Adams, which took place in Invercargill at 4 o’clock yesterday morning. The last eight years of the deceased gentleman’s service of twenty years in the Customs Department were spent in Invercargill, and during that time he had by a kindly and courteous disposition earned the esteem of all who came into contact with him. In the discharge of his duties as landing waiter Mr Adams was surrounded by no unapproachable barrier of officialdom. Ever ready to inconvenience himself to oblige others, Mr Adams possessed the goodwill of every business man in the town. Up to about a week ago Mr Adams appeared to be in his usual state of health. At the beginning of the week he was compelled to relinquish his duties and to take to bed through a bad attack of appendicitis. Peritonitis supervened and within a few days brought about his death. Deceased leaves a widow and a family of three. His body will be taken to Dunedin for private interment.
