. BASTINGS, Aug. 17. In connection with a series of minor burglaries here, a gang of four lads, ranging from 15 to 18 years, and respectably connected, appeared before the Police Court this lrtorning, and were remanded for a week.
DUNEDIN, Aug. 17. The Commissioner of Crown Lands stated to-day that the Crown teivants were of late paying their rents very satisfactorily. Out of a total annual rental of £73,600, including all classes of tenants, there is in all only £1420 owing by 88 out of about 32GQ. A flvwoomai house in St. Kilda, ovme'd by Eugen/> Murphy and occupied, by F. McArtihur, was destroyed by fire to-night. The house is insured for £200 in the Royal, and the furniture for £200 in the Northern" offi,c©. ; &:'■:
