The King's Birthday

To-day King Edward the Seventh celebrates his 62nd birthday, and his loyal subjects in Invercargiil in common with tho •'whole of this colony, obVerVe a close holiday in honour of the occasion, and at the same time devoutly wish him " many 'happy returns of the day." In accordance with our previous practice we give a resume of the attractions for holiday-makers, -with particulars of Jtraia arrangements. Tho Battalion Band's picnic and sports; at Mokotua is certain of large support if the weather bo at all fine, and tho Seaward Bush line is so (seldom travelled by other than business people that a jaunt through the attractive country should be both boneAcial and enjoyable.. A special train leaves Invercargili nt 9.45 a.m, and leaves Mokotua at 5.30 p.m ; reaching Invercargiil nt fi.3o. The Rand can, of •course, be relied on to do their best in the way of entertainment.

Winton is always a popular resort for a holiday, and with tho additional attraction of the races, tho township should receive a. record, crowd. The trainleaves Invercargiil at 10.43 anr. and reaches Winton at 1.1.-7 ; stopping. as usual, at the racecourse crossing, for .the convenience of those who wish to go direct to the course. The return journey will commence at 0.41 p.m., the train picking up passengers at the crossing, nnd town is reached at 8 15 p.m.

Bowlers are reminded of the match at Gore, where every preparation has been mado to make the outing an enjoyable, one.
