Page Four.— Wellington notes and letters will be found on this page. Mr Wm. Todd. —Elsewhere is published this morning a letter from Western Australia, the writer being Mr Wm. Todd. A Generous Sort.—The secretary of the Brunner Relief Committee, West Australia, has sent to the Premier, in all, L 460 10s 3d, collected in aid of the fund. In a letter accompanying the draft Mr Kelsall mentions that the committee was composed of almost all Maorilaudcrs, and, as the outcome of the committee, a New Zealand Democratic Association is to jbe formed at Kalgoorlie, its object being t> discuss the latest social and political developments in New Zealand,

Significant.—Thus the Lyttelton Times oa the proposals of the Government: “We may, however, point out at once that the sum proposed to be allocated for railway construction does not hold out any hope of vigorous prosecution of these works, which are deemed to be of great importance to the development of the colony. If more money is wanted the electors will have to give their mandate in that direction at the ballot box.”

Liedertafel Concert.—Two very attractive items on the programme for Wednesday evening are “The Sabbath Call” and “ The Hunter’s Joy ” part songs. The former opens with the full power of the voices, succeeded, after the first few bars, by a beautiful qnartette leading to a double forte. finale; and the latter, the description of the hunt, followed by a serenade, “ Beneath my lady’s window,” (after which the huntsman’s chorus is again heard, gradually dying away in the distance. The programme has been strengthened by the addition ef Mrs C. T. Murphy’s name. She contributes several choice items.

Wyndham Notes.—The heavy rains of the last few days have swollen the streams in this district, so that grkvqjears are entertained by those immediately concerned that another serious flood may ensue. It is said that two others are new arrivals in the colony.—l learn from a private letter addressed to a 'gentleman in Wyndham, that there is a probability of the Hon, G. F. Richardson being down here in the course of a fortnight or so. His advent is eagerly looked for by his numerous supporters in this district.— Own correspondent. Wholesale Agents, N.Z. Drug Co. What between steam, electricity, petro leurn, and the motor carriage, the horse’s occupation, like Othello’s, would appear to be gone. The writer is of opinion, however, that no cold-blooded machinery will ever supersede man’s best servant, the horse; but, in any case, there will be plenty of time to purchase a vehicle from W. H.
