Mayor of Invercargill.
TO THE EDITOR. Sin, —In this evening’s News is a report of a concert held at Clifton, South Invercargill, where “ his Worship the Mayor (Mr J. Sinclair)” presided. I always thought that Clifton was in South Invercargill. If it is, why did the Mayor of Invercargill preside at a meeting outside of his borough 1 I think if he had a spark of manliness in him he would not have done so. It was the duty of the promoters of that concert to have asked their own Mayor (Mr A. Bain) to have presided, oven if he does not belong to that “great” body, the Liberal Association of Southland. What would Mr Sinclair think of Mr Bain presiding at a meeting in Invercargill’ Even though he did I believe he would be as good a spokesman os our Mayor. There must be something at the bottom of all this; perhaps Mr Sinclair’s being an aspirant to higher honours may have something to do with it. As a resident and ratepayer of Invercargill 1 object to our Mayor going outside to do the work of others. Let him stay at home and look after our interests for which he is paid, and then he may not have time to preside where he had, in my opinion, no right (as Mayor) to be.—l am, &c., One Dog One Bone. Invercargill, 16th July.
