Fire Extinction.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib, —After seeing your leader of to-day the point seems to be ; at whose cost should the fire brigade service be kept up ? For my part I think it should be kept up by those most interested, namely the various fire insurance companies. The greater portion of town property will be insured in some of them, and it is they who naturally reap the greatest benefit from insurance premiums. It should be to their interest to see that the least damage occurs when there is a fire; and it must be admitted that the more complete and efficient the management, equipment, hose, etc, in connection with the brigade, the less naturally will be the damage done, and consequently the smaller the loss to the insurance companies. According to the amount of property insured in the town by each company, so, in proportion, should they pay towards the maintenance of the fire brigade.—l am, etc., Pho Bono Publico. Bth August. -
