GREYMOUTH, Friday. ' In the R.M. Court the case of J. E. Fitzgeruld (Controller and Auditor-Gen-eral) v. A. R. Guinness (member of the Harbour Board) for L 8 13s lOd, being de fendant'a portion of a sum of; L 25 33 2d alleged to have been spent without, authority of law, was heard, and plaintiff; was non-suited. Objection was taken that the Auditor-General had no. authority to take such proceedings, and the, Magistrate held that it had not been shown that the Governor required the Audit Office to audit tho accounts of the Greymouth HarrJour Board. CHRISTOHURCH, Friday. At the University Senate yesterday it was resolved — "That a special committee, consisting of Professor J. M. Brown, Rev. W. Habens, Sir G. M. It is understood that the University Council will hold a special meeting re Dr Salmond's appointment to the Mental Science Chair, when the decision arrived at is likely to be reversed. The Chancellor, it is stated, has a deliberative and casting vote, and by its exercise tho former decision not to sanction Dr Salmond's appointment can be reversed.
