The Local Boards Question.
[BY TELEGBArH.J * Wellington, June 27. The result of polling on the subject of local boards for the Government Insurance Association was declared by the chairman. (Sir Julius "Vogol) this afternoon at the Drill Shed. Following are the respective numbers for and against them;— ln favour of boards, 948 ; against them, 4633.— Majority against, 3415. Sir Julius Vogel, in announcing the result, eaid that although he was in favour'of the institution of local boards, and doubted whether they had done wisely in voting against them, yet now that the poll was closed be would say that it was the intention of the Board to work loyally, in the interests of the policy-holders. Votes of thanks to the officers of the Department, and the usual complimerit to the Uhairman, closed the proceedings. June 28. The following shows the result of the poll ia the various districts: — Auckland, 3 to 1 against ; Dunlin, 3£ to 1 against : Obristchurcb, 6 to 1 against; Wellington, 17 to 1 against; Southland, 20 to 1 against.
