MR PETER CAMPBELL, Late from Canada, America, the authorised Agent of J. W. Lyon & Co.'s American Publishing Company, has just arrived in Invercargill, and will call personally on tho citizens, and give them an opportunity of expressing their opinion of this truly valuable Book. Read the following recommendations from well-known Clergymen in Invercargill who have examined the complete work. August 12, 1878. Invercargill, 19th August, 1878. j Dear Sir, — I am glad to recommend your book as containing an interesting and in-' structive account of the past history and present position of the Holy Land. Yours truly, W. P. Tanneb. P. Campbell, Esq. Manse, Invercargill, August 16th, 1878. I have seen the volume entitled " Sacred Biography," which Mr Campbell is offering for sale to the public, and believe that it is well fitted to illustrate the Bible in many points of deep interest, and that it will ba profitable and interesting to the general reader. ANDBEW H. STOBO, I have looked into " Sacred Biography and History," and can recommend it as a very important and valuable work. Its notices of leading Biblical characters are interesting, instructing, and so far as I can judge, thoroughly accurate. In the latter part of the book there are short accounts of the leading Reformers of the 16th Centiuy. Those who are unable to lay their hands on elaborate works on Church History, would do well to purchase " Sacred Biography, &c," when they will find a succinct and graphic account of the great men whose names are dear to the heart of every Protestant. That part of the work which refers to the discoveries that have been made in recent years in Egypt, Palestine, and Assyria, will be read with the deepest interest. On the whole I think this book unusuallyqualified to do much good, and an admirable counteraction to many of the sceptical works of the day. James G. Patebson," I St. Paul's Church, Invercargill. Invercargill, 13th August, 1878. I have looked into " Sacred Biography and History," and have found such parts of it na I have had time to read, both instructive and interesting. It goes over so large a surface that of necessity minute details cannot always be given. Nevertheless many of the more recent discoveries in the East, are described in a way that cannot fail to benefit all who may read the book. The last four chapters (giving an account of Rosetta and Moabite Stones), I have gone through more carefully and can speak highly in their favor. D. McNicoll, Wesleyan Minister. Sacred Biography, History, and explora* tions published by J. W. Lyon and Co., of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, is a book worthy of a wide circulation. The dryness which generally stigmatizes the class of literature to which it belongs is happily supplanted by a style both readable and attractive. ; It supplies the place of a supplement to the Sacred Volume, inasmuch as it follows up the evidences of Scripture, by giving the subsequent history of the Apostles, not related by sacred canon, the history of. the leading reformers, and also the. recent explorations made in the Holy Land, thus supplying the connecting links up to the present day. These qualifications combined with the excellent manner of binding, deserve to make it popular in the family, in the Sunday school, and also the study, and is no doubt value .for the money. Geo. Johnston, Baptist Minister, Invercargill. TTI I N A L N O T I C E. ALL indebted to us are requested to settle before Ist September, 1878. Or arrangements made otherwise, accounts will be col- .
