The- new stock br dgc across the Oreti at Benmore was opened on : Wednesday, 4th September. The at'- . ternoon was a very fine one, and a large gathering was the result. Mill. G. Brass, of Benmore, acted as chairman, battle Miss O'Brien, grand daughter of Mrs Decgan, of Itiversdale, cut the ribbon, and the bridge eras declared open for traffic. Mr Hamilton, the County Council representative for the riding, was present, and addressed the gathering, as also did Mr Barker, the bridge builder. Afternoon tea was handed round with other liquid relrcshments. The people enjoyed the gathering very much, and altogether it was a very social affair. The bridge will prove a great boon to the settlers on both sides of the river, and also to the travelling public. In sympathy with other parts of Southland, there has been a few farms changing hands about hero. The weather is springlike, and the lambs are beginning to bloet- A good portion of the crop has been got in. and things are looking promising. We will soon have the fishing season with us again.
