A threshing mill hand at Blenheim accidentally lost an eye whilst at work, and sued the owner of the mill for £2GO damages. The mill-owner, held that the man was employed by the farmer, .but the magistrate ruled that the mill-owner was the employer, a s the gang followed the mill and took orders from the owner only. A mutual settlement was arrived at. The decision will gave the effect of forcing machine-owners to include in the contract for the threshing price all machine hands’ wages. It is the first case of the kind heard in the colony.
