A Chili correspondent writing to the ‘''British Journal ol Nursing-” sends to . that paper an interesting' account ot’ the healing- effects of the Valparaiso earthquake of last August, on several people who were suffering from various acute diseases. Names and authorities are given, and the cases are doubtless authentic. In one case a man suffering rom rheumatic fever is said to have jumped from his bed and rushed into the street, when the walls of his house began to sway. After being exposed to the rainy weather for some time he was finally put back to bed, when it was found that the pain and fever had completely disoppeared. Cases 0 f typhoid, pneumonia, epilepsy, and other diseases a re reported to have been cured, presumably by the shock and excitement of the earthquake. An insane patient recovered his intelligence entirely, and appeared in every way sane for three days, when, as the excitement began to die away, he relapsed into his .ormer condition of insanity.:
