BREVITIES. Our local bowling club have not entered a rink for the Invercargill tournament, as there are several inter-club matches to be played on during the Easter holidays, for prizes presented by the President and VicePresidents. Mr Salmon, our postmaster, has recently returned from a holiday, and Mr Fordham is now on leave, taking a spell from post office business. The s.s. Maheno is expected to arrive from Melbourne on Sunday instead of Monday. The local Guards held a very successful social last Friday, and I understand everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. A large number of residents have taken advantage of the special excursion to Christchurch, with the object of seeing the Exhibition. The local Foresters are having a fruit supper with a few of their ■friends next Thursday evening. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. At the monthly meeting of the Magistrate’s Court at Campbelltown the following cases were dealt with before Mr S. E. McCarthy, S.M. — Truant Officer v. Ernest Rollinson, for neglecting to send children to to school, two charges ; fined 10s and 7s costs on the first ; second charge, convicted and discharged. L. M. Whelan v. Jas. Delaney, charge of assault. Mr Haggitt for complainant. Defendant was fined 40s and 7s costs and solicitor’s fee £1 Is ; one mo'nth allowed in which to pay. Judgement by default was given m the following civil cases : P. C. M. Andersen v. Thos. McCarthy, claim £2 12s 9d, costs 5s ; same v, John McCarthy, claim £3 3s 91d, costs ss; George Skerrctt v. George Cross, claim £2 7s 6d, costs sis ; same v. Win. Niven, claim £l, costs 5s ; V. Metzger v. Joseph Johnson (Mataura), claim £2 18s, costs ss. In the case of G. A. Whealler v. George Skerrett, claim 17s 6d for amount of premium for renewal of insurance, judgment was given for plaintiff for amount of claim and costs 6s, Mr J. Moffett appeared for defendant.
