CARTERS 3 PICNIC. ' The sec oil'd annual picnic in connection with the local carters was held on the East Road on Wednesday, and a most enjoyable day was spent 1 . A procession was formed in Dee street, and close on 40 vehicles were drawn up with heavy loads of picnickers, both young and old. The Y.M.C.A. band discoursed music, and it was a grand spectacle to watch the procession pass along'. A good programme of sports was drawn up. and the 190-7 picnic was voted capital. The sice chosen was an ideal one. During- the day a 'programme of twenty events was gone through, and competition was keen. The committee worked hand, and were g-ratiliod to know that their efforts were much appreciated. The principal events 1 were won as under ; Carters’ Sheffield 120 Yards Handicap.—l- Cal’der 1, Jno. Never before has the Invercargill public had such a chance of amusement and instruction. Their visit has been eagerly awaited by a large number of people, and their efforts to cater a very high-class entertainment has been -duly rewarded. Those who have not yet attended should make a point of being- there to-day. Mothers should bring their children to the* grand matinee this afternoon and enjoy the good things provided. To-night a new performance is being presented, and trains are being -delated to give Bluff residents a ohairce to witness the performance, and it should be largely availed of. A remarkably high standard has been set by Mr West and the Brescians. and the patronage ace corded is a striking compliment of their ability. It is purely an entertainment for the people, at very popular prices-, viz.. Bs. 2s, and Is. The corporation staff, under Mr Stone, the engineer, have risen to the occasion, and Mr West is delighted- at the manner in which he is able to show the pictures. The singing and playing of the Brescians is much admired. They are finished performers, and must be. heard to be appreciated. The popular manager. Mr (lee, is delighted with the patronage accorded, and their stay in Invercargill is being made a pleasant one.
