HOUSEHOLD HINTS.
To make a shabby oilcloth look like new, .give it a thin coat of clear varnish ; it is splendid. A Remedy for Tired Feet. —Immerse the feet nightly in a foot-bath of
warm water to which a teaspoonful of ammonia has been added. After drying, and while the feet are still warm and moist, rub in a little vaseline. In the morning rub all over with French chalk. But, above all, remember to wear comfortable, wellfitting shoes, and you will find it a good plan to-have two pairs of stockings going—wearing them turn about on alternate days. If a baby’s hair is from the very first brushed the wrong way with a slightly damp brush, or while still wet from the morning tub, it can very often be induced to curl naturally, unless it is absolutely straight and stiff. Singeing sometimes helps to make the hair grow. Monthly cuttings of the ends is helpful, too, but if the hair is naturally coarse this should not be done, as it tends to make it coarser. Soar Throats.—lnfants and young children with “sore throats should be given occasional sips of a mixture of a toaspoonful of borax in a wineglassful of glycerine. The glycerine lubricates the throat, and the borax is a first-class antiseptic for all throat conditions. To improve boiled potatoes. —After the water has been drained from boiled potatoes, and while still in the pot, shake well, then place a clean white cloth ’ over them, and leave them to steam for a few minutes. This gives them a white, floury, appearance.
