INVERCARGILL XI. v. STAR XIII.
G. Kingsland winning the toss, sent the Star into the field, Taylor and Manson facing the bowling of Gibson and Paterson. Manson was out l.b.w. to Paterson, after patting np 14. Kingsland followed and soon put together 31 by free cricket. Burke and Blakely were easily got rid off, and Dalrymple rattled up 17 (not out) in double quick time. Taylor was caught off the last ball of the innings, after playing steady cricket for 67, giving only one chance. With 6 wickets down for 138 the innings was declared closed. At the call of time, the XIII. had lost 7 wickets for 72, Wesney being top with a well-played 25, Borne 14, and Mentiplay 11. Inveecaboiui XI. The annual iuterprovincial match between Otago and Southland will be played at Invercargill on the 1.C.0. ground on Wednesday and Thursday next, and a very interesting match is looked forward to, as the Otago team will be the strongest they can put in the field. The City Band will be in attendance and play selections.
