Local Industries.
With a keen appreciation of the value of local industries small and great, and a leaning in favour of the smaller, we are pleased to note and call tho attention of our readers to Mr Worburton’s advertisement to day in which he announces that he has commenced the manufacture and wholesale distribution of a pure baking powder, the composition of which he is patenting. There is a great quantity of baking powder used in the colony, and there is no difficulty in its manufacture to one who “ knows how ” —when we have an enterprising man who does know how to make it—there is no reason why money should be sent out of the place for wbat can be produced here. Mr Warburton’s well known skill as a chemist is sufficient guarantee that bis production is at least worth a trial, and wo suppose he will be content to accept the verdict pronounced upon it by those who do try it. The powder is well put up in tins, and a wrapper gives full directions for use for various purposes. Ihe trade mark adopted is itself a bold bid for popularity, a b : g big B and tho motto “Can’t B Beat.” Wo wish Mr Warburton the success deserved by enterprise directed to supplying a household need.
