A man who gave the name of Frank Hart, but whose proper name is believed to be Fisher, was sentenced to seven days hard labour for a complication of offences He was arrested by Constable Tarrant in the main road last night for being drunk, and when in custody used most obscene language, resisted violently, and almost destroyed the constable’s uniform. ALLEGED LUNACY. A religious monamaniac named Janet Caldwell, after medical examination and inquiry by the Bench, was remanded to the hospital for a week on an information alleging her to he of unsound mind and not under proper control. AFFILIATION. A man named Donald Sutherland was remanded till to-morrow that the case may (as it must) be'heard by the Resident Magistrate, on a charge of refusing to pay funeral and other expenses of his illigilimate child, of which one Fanny Greaves was the mother. This prosecution was obtained by the Charitable Aid Board, who had to pay the expenses and Mr A. Ferry conducts it. Mr Martin of Oamaru appears to defend the accused who was allowed bail.
