PUBLISHED EVERY WEDNESDAY. Wednesday.' July 3, 1931. THE CALL OF THE DISTRESSED.

We heartily commend the appeal that is being made m Warkworth and mvirons by the local branch of the Farmers' Union and the combined Churches on behalf of the many who ore in absolute wunt of sufficient food, clothing and fuol for bodily ana mental weli'being It is no exaggeration to say th»t hundreds of families are in this unfortunate position through no fault of their own. Numerous genuine aud pitiful ca.-es are being met with daily bythose who are ministering relief, and so desperate are these cases that it would hardly appear to be crediblo in God's Own Oirntry. In many instances on record they are pe.'plf wli<. -nrn tlnifty :ind coiupai-a* tively piosperou.-till tt-.p slump. Wo me uflMired that L|it> dintiibiiiK-u of all foodstuffs take- place at on»- centre,

to prevent overlapping and abuse/and all relief cases are thoroughly investi* gated. The members of the local Farmers' Union are to be commended for their active participation in this matter, in view of their own personal difficulties, but all who do appreciate the dire need are convinced that it is the duty of all members of the community to relieve the position wherever possible. The effort is to be spread over the winter months to prevent a glut so that gilts of turnip!*, clothes, vegetables, fowl's eggs, etc., will be welcomed at any time ut the Warkworth depot, near Mr B. Hamilton's. Firewood, cut or otherwise will be received, but will be sold and the money donated in liQu of. the difficulty forwarding to Auckland.

If tianspoxt i& needed to bring douations to Warkworth, commuuicate with any of the local Church ministers or Mr Bond, president of Farmers' XJniou.
