FOOTBALL.
„ On Saturday afternoon all roads'tad to the Wellsford football ground where a record crowd witnessed one of the best games aeon here lately. Both. sides were out to win and had fielded a strong fifteen A. feature of the match was the fine kicking by Vipoml who put over two (food penalty kicks for his side. Jock \Wthington scored a very pretty try which, however, failed in the effort of c m verting. F >r Wellsfoid every player worked wall and the home team uotolled two cries which were not ouverted; Ei'iu Drower scored the first try and A!an Macdonald raced across lntoi" t' r another. It was a gool all round ex position o: the game and was capably controlled by M"g II L. B.iT >!'."■ It was noticed that the luc>il Olub had made much more satisfactory ay rangements re thu pmking of cars on the Wayby road and due to the oavofill and capable direction of Constable Ryan the traffic was handled well and the chance of accidents thus reduced to a minimum. AMUSEMENTS. Last Saturday a very fine evening's entertainment was provided by the Wellsford Ladies' Hookey Club and the Football Club when they staged a very successful dance. There was also ping pong for uon dancers. The music wa3 supplied by Messrs Jacques and. Strange and every one voted the show a great success. A lovely supper provided by the girls was much relished. This successful effort should considerably swell the funds of the new recreation ground. WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting was held last Friday and was well attended Proceedings opened with the National Anthem played by Mrs Hare and sung by all present. Mrs E. R. Becroft, ; secretary of the Port Albert branch, ! i^ave a very instructive demonstration on the «rt of making m >ocasaii>s A large Dumber of members siyniiied their intention of taking up this fascinating pastime. Mrs Burnliim rendered a well suug solo and also gave a recitation, both items being applauded. The competition for the b^st papiere iruche article for prize? donated by Mrs Waldrom resulted as follows:—Mrs Shaw 1, Mrs Uoop 2. Mrs Stark acted as judge in this competition. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesd^mes W. Powell. E. Vipond, GK Vipo-iU, Hare and Edmunds.
