On Sunday when the Harbour Bridge Commission was in Warkworth Mr F. W. Furkert, who is engineer-in, charge of the Public Works Department, availed himself of the opportunity to inspect the bridge oveY the river in'Warkworth Township. Mr Furkert expressed his amazement at the unsafe conditien of the bridge, particularly the footpath portion of it, and stated that he failed to understand why the local authority responsible was permitting it to remain in its present state. Ao'vertiser has bricks for sale. The death oi Mr Isaac Bailey last week in his 85th year removes another ea'ly Auckland colonist. Born at Titchmarsh, Thropstin, Northampton shire, Mr Bailey arrived at Auckland by the vessel Annie Wilson iv 1863. During the early part of his long life in New Zealand, Mr Bailey was sue cessively attracted by the gold rushes on the West Coast of the South Island and at Thames For many years subsequently Mr Bailey was stationed at Huntly as a foreman in connection with the construction of the railway between Auckland aud Hamilton. Mr Bailey was an original member of the Baptist Church when it was established on the corner of Wellesley and Federal streets. Re continued to take a keen interest in the church until his death, being one of the oldest members of the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle. Mr Bailey was married in Auckland in 1870 to Miss Maria Lou den, who predeceased him many years ago. The late Mr Bailey was one of the party who 'aid down Karangahape road, Syuuonds street, nud Shortland street iv Auckland's early days. Mrs T. Buekton, late of Warkworth, was a neice of his.
